This Wednesday the Supreme Court in Mexico city approved the use of marijuana for recreational use. This was thank to an agreement where a member of a interest group presented a case to the Supreme Court. With this him and other 3 individuals are allow to grow and posses their marijuana, without any trouble. The legalization of the Marijuana has been a topic debatable in a lot of countries in the Americas. It is important to notice that no country as make it official to do it for recreational purposes. But the question is, is it going to have a good or a bad result in the fight against drug cartels and drugs in this country. And how the American government would use this as ?
In my opinion this step in the law in Mexico would only make things worst. Why, well the deal only allows these four persons the liberty to use this drug but what happens with the rest of the population who use it. They would want to be able to have the same benefits, which could lead to a major crisis where the fight for equality to get this law be nationalized could make the government look soft on their so called war against drug cartels.
The American government has certainly need to make a decision on how would they will be acting against or in favor of this decision. Mexico has always had the support of Washington in the war against organized crime, and so far there has been no comment with this law. The reaction that would be to expect is a possible rejection. The battle with the legalisation of drugs in American is something that is always a troubled topic. If the american public sees this as a chance to persuade and mobilized against the government then Obama’s administration would need to take hands on it.
I believe it is time that the president of Mexico takes the power of veto with real seriousness. If this gets out of hand in the different states with in the country it could lead to a revolution and based on the problems that the country is facing and the hate against the administration at the moment is a pretty strong chance to see this result. And not only in the country but it would show that if one country can do it then the others can do too. Which if there comes a time where the countries have legalized one drug it would become a domino effect with other drugs.
To finish I would like to say that it is important to know that the numbers of people who use marijuana in Mexico is smaller than the number of Americans who do. Will Washington make and influence over their neighbour government to make the best of it or would they fight against this decision.
