Since the United States withdrawal from Afghanistan, not only has the Taliban quickly ascended to power, but the drug trade is also booming. Since the departure, Afghanistan's production of opium has tripled and has a value of around $1.4 billion. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Taliban claims that the drug industry will be "crippled" within 4 years and that the Taliban have a plan to suppress both the use and sale of recreational drugs.
