Large Earthquake in the Philippines

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 struck this past Saturday off the southern Philippine coast, prompting many citizens to leave their homes around midnight after Philippine authorities issued a tsunami warning. The quake hit at a depth of 32 kilometers/ 20 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Due to the great depth that the earthquake hit, the tsunami warning center expected tsunami waves to hit the southern Philippines and parts of Indonesia. Luckily, this was not the case, and there were no immediate reports of major damage or casualties throughout the Philippines
