Many South American Countries have protested against Israel's treatment of Palestinians in Gaza. The Bolivian government cut ties entirely and attributed its decision to war crimes and human rights abuses committed in the Gaza Strip. Hours after this decision Chile and Columbia recalled their ambassadors from Israel and Brazil's president criticized the continued airstrikes on Gaza. Bolivia had previously broken off relations with Israel in 2009 after it invaded the Gaza Strip but it re-established its ties in 2020 under right-wing president Jeanine Áñez. Colombia's leftwing president, Gustavo Petro, said on Tuesday he had recalled his ambassador over Israel’s “massacre of the Palestinian people”.
