On Tuesday, Russia backed out of a post Cold war treaty. The treaty was put in place in 1990, a year after the destruction of the Berlin wall. The treaty on Conventional Armed Forces prevented the US and Russia from gathering weapons for an attack on one another in Europe. Russia first suspended participation in 2007 and officially exited the treaty at midnight on Tuesday. The US and NATO fell that Russia exiting this treaty undermines Euro-Atlantic security. This has not come as a surprise as Russia has failed to abide by the treaty for many years.
