The Biden Administration abruptly shifted on global technology rules which have weakened an Asian trade agreement that was supposed to counter China's growing clout in the region. The U.S. recently withdrew from rules facilitating digital trade that included the transfer of data across borders of customers and supply chains. This decision has also angered U.S. based business groups who are in favor of the free flow of data to boost the digital economy.
