Recently in the South China Sea, in a disputed area by both China and the Philippines, there was a collision of two boats; both countries accuse each other of the cause which is increasing already high tensions. The Philippines accuse the Chinese crew of taking irregular and reckless blockade maneuvers which resulted in the collision with a Philippine boat that was carrying troops and supplies to the Island of Shoal. This is a repeat incident as the China has done before drawing into question the “accidental nature” of this event. Ever more curious, the Philippine boat in the previous event was also carrying troops and supplies. As a result, the Philippines have increased military presence that the Chinese are considering a violation on international marine law.
The Chinese claim that the Philippines were in Chinese water warranting a search from the Chinses coast guard resulting in a, as they put it, “minor collision”. They are also accusing the Philippines of causing the second accident as well. They claim that these incidents happened in Chinese waters even though the international tribunal made the decision they have no power in that area. This is just two examples of damage done; this extends further than just boats as coral reefs have also been bleached and destroyed but accusations thrown aside as “false”.
