Israel declared war Sunday as it bombarded the Gaza strip with airstrikes in retaliation for a major surprise attack by Hamas. The declaration came a day after an unprecedented incursion by Hamas fighters who blew through a fortified border fence and gunned down civilians and soldiers in Israeli communities along the Gaza frontier during a major Jewish holiday. during the attack, nearly 1000 Hamas fighters attacked a crowded music festival that left 260 bodies for the authorities to remove. Israel responded with air strikes that would later tower a fourteen-story building. At least 700 people were reported killed in Israel and more than 400 in Gaza. The declaration of war is significant because now Israel can use major military force during this battle. with this step being achieved, Israel was able to hit more than 800 targets. Although the war is frequently new, the effects have already caused drastic changes to the surrounding areas, and it will only get worse as the war goes on.
